“EVERYTHING WAS RIGHT FOR WRIGHT BROTHERS”

On December 17, 1903, two bothers created history with little formal technical education defied gravity on their own flying machine “The Wright Flyers”. It was the day when humanity witnessed the first powered sustained manned controlled flight. Came from family of seven children Oliver and Wilbur wrights were mechanics in their self-owned bicycle shop where work of destiny began.

Most of us are aware about the famous flight at Kitty Hawk where both brothers piloted first powered aircraft for 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. Simultaneously three more flights were performed which made a piloting record lasting 59 seconds and covering a distance over 852 feet’s.

Orville was born on August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio and Wilbur was born on April 16, 1867 Millville, Indiana .Their parents Milton Wright (1828–1917)  and Susan Catherine Koerner (1831–1889) encouraged their children in education and practical matters.

 

Here are some interesting facts, which very few people will be aware about famous brothers:

Fact 1: The Wright brother’s first airplane was actually a glider.

Fact 2: It was and coin toss to decide which brother will be the first one to be airborne, Orville was the 

             Clear winner.

Fact 3: We all might think Wright brothers had any engineering diploma but the truth is none of them

              Received even high school diploma.

Fact 4: Their obsession for flying began with the gift from their father a bamboo copter toy powered

              By a Rubber band.

Fact 5: Wright brothers were once into printing business of weekly newspaper “The West Side News”.

             Eventually they switched to bicycle repair and sales shop “Wright Cycle Company”.

Fact 6: The tight-knight brothers were never married on asked by a reporter Wilbur replied, “He didn’t

             Have time for both a wife and an Airplane”

Fact 7: Orville and Wilbur Wright flew together only once for 6 minutes on 25th may 1910 that to on 

              Single exception of their father as he feared of losing both sons. However the flight went

              Smooth after landing Orville took his 82 year Bishop father on his first and only flight.

Fact 8: The “Wright flyer” the famous flying machine used by Wright brothers on successful first flight

             On 1903 never flew again as after 4 successive attempts the flying machine was wrecked by             

              Sudden and strong gust of wind flipping the aircraft several times causing heavy damage that

              Was beyond repair.

Fact 9:  Orville was involved in first fatal aviation accident, which resulted in death of Thomas

               Selfridge, an Army Signal Corps Lieutenant. Although Orville survived but he sustained  

              A back injury haunting him for lifetime.  

Fact 10: There was a tiff between Orville Wright and Smithsonian museum who were eager to acquire

               “The Wright Flyer” but Oliver always refused to donate it to the museum as they provided

                 False information regarding the first manned aircraft however in 1940 Orville donated it to

                 Smithsonian museum.

Fact 11: It will be astonishing to know but it is true Neil Armstrong first person to walk on moon

               Carried a piece of “The Wright Flyer” a wooden block from the airplane left propeller

               Along with muslin fabric from left wing inside his space suit in 1969.
